This bust is the centerpiece of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Plaza which is located in the Indiana Abraham Lincoln State park in Spencer County in southern Indiana. This is where Lincoln spent his formative years from 7 to 21 years of age. The plaza includes eight educational pillars telling of Lincoln's life in Indiana and how it shaped his later years. Also two of his best known speeches, the Gettysburg Address and the last paragraphs of his Second Inaugural are found on either side of the bust. Lincoln's closed left hand symbolizes Lincoln's desire to hold the Union together, while his open right hand symbolizes Lincoln's desire for a fair and positive reconciliation with the South.
